MRI Scans - How it Works?

MRI machines are large, tube-shaped magnets. They operate by passing an electric current through coiled wires to create a temporary magnetic field within the body. A transmitter/receiver in the machine sends and receives radio waves, and the computer processes these signals to create digital images of the scanned area. Notably, our facility features a state-of-the-art Siemens 3T Lumina with Deep Resolve AI technology, which allows for faster and more accurate acquisition of high-resolution images.

Why MRI is Done?

MRI is a non-invasive tool used by doctors to examine organs, tissues, and the skeletal system. Its high-resolution images are crucial for diagnosing a variety of conditions. The absence of ionizing radiation is a significant advantage, making MRI especially suitable for:

  • Pregnant women and children (high radiation risk patients).
  • Patients with chronic conditions that require routine imaging, such as multiple sclerosis and inflammatory bowel diseases.

Common MRI Applications:

Brain and Spinal Cord Imaging

Detects conditions such as:

  • Aneurysms
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Spinal cord issues
  • Stroke
  • Tumors
  • Traumatic brain injuries
Functional MRI (fMRI)

Measures blood flow to specific brain areas, useful for:

  • Assessing brain function
  • Guiding decisions for brain surgery
  • Evaluating head injuries and conditions like Alzheimer’s disease
Heart and Blood Vessel Imaging

Assesses:

  • Heart chamber size and function
  • Heart wall thickness and movement
  • Damage from heart attacks or diseases
  • Aortic structural problems
  • Blood vessel inflammation or blockages
Internal Organs

MRI can evaluate:

  • Prostate
  • Ovaries and uterus
  • Pancreas
  • Liver and bile ducts
  • Kidneys
  • Spleen
  • Liver elastography
Bones and Joints

Helps diagnose:

  • Tumors
  • Bone infections
  • Joint degeneration or injuries
  • Spinal disk issues
  • Pre-surgical evaluations
Breast MRI

Used alongside mammography to detect breast cancer, particularly in women with dense breast tissue or those at high risk:

Deep Resolve: AI-Powered MRI Technology

Our 3T MRI Unit has Deep Resolve which is an advanced AI-driven image reconstruction technology designed to revolutionize magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Utilizing convolutional neural networks, Deep Resolve accelerates MRI scans, enhancing both workflow efficiency and patient experience. This innovative approach transforms raw data into high-quality images more rapidly than ever before, generating actionable insights that are crucial for accurate diagnosis.

Key Features of Deep Resolve:

1. Accelerated Imaging:

Deep Resolve significantly reduces scan times without sacrificing image resolution. This capability is a game changer for healthcare providers, allowing for a more efficient workflow.

2. Enhanced Image Quality:

The technology employs targeted denoising and deep learning methods, particularly through Deep Resolve Gain and Deep Resolve Sharp, which ensure sharper images are produced even during faster scans. Deep Resolve Sharp takes low-resolution inputs and reconstructs them into high-resolution images, providing clinically robust results.

3. Raw Data Utilization:

By incorporating raw data into the reconstruction process, Deep Resolve achieves superior results that surpass traditional denoising and interpolation methods. This leads to improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and enhanced diagnostic confidence.

4. Quick Neuro Imaging:

Deep Resolve Swift Brain employs a multi-shot echo planar imaging (EPI) technique, enabling a comprehensive neuro exam in just two minutes while capturing all relevant contrasts in one acquisition.

5. Collaborative Environment:

The open interface of Deep Resolve encourages collaboration and co-creation within a secure digital framework, facilitating continuous improvement and innovation in MRI technology.

The Future of AI in MRI

Deep Resolve marks a significant advancement in the digital future of MRI. Siemens Healthineers is committed to integrating AI into imaging acquisition and reconstruction processes, driving the digitalization of healthcare.
